My Take on the Presidential Debate

I didn't get to watch the full Presidential debate. However, I have been glued to the television set for the past hour and here's what I saw:

Senator John McCain:

Pros:
Discusses experience. (And honestly, that's about all I saw)

Cons:

Constantly stating "Barack Obama doesn't understand."
**Barack Obama tonight showed that HE DOES understand**

Name-dropping
**"My friend Henry Kissinger."...etc. "I've been to Pakistan..." "I've looked into Putin's eyes..."**

Failure to Connect
**McCain looked primarily at Jim Lehrer, not at the camera, not to Senator Obama**

Hypocritical
**Pointing out Obama's lack of experience, while McCain's Vice Presidential pick Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin has less than five years of political experience**

Rediculous Statements
**The point he made about South Koreans being 3 inches taller than North Koreans??...Obama is not flexible enough.**


Senator Barack Obama

Pros:

Came in Swinging
**Senator Obama came into tonight's debate ready to battle and proved it time after time when taking shots at Senator McCain and was able to defend every single legitimate and illegitimate point made by McCain**

Connected with American People
**By using phrases such as "When I am President..." and continuously looking into the camera, at Senator McCain and into the audience, Obama made more of a connection than McCain managed to.**

Brought in Emotion
**Discussed his father in Kenya, talked about war bracelet initially brought up by McCain and used the opportunity to say no soldier dies in vain.**

Get the United States some R-E-S-P-E-C-T
**Obama talked frequently about the way the United States used to be viewed compared to how it is now. Senator Obama says "The United States is the greatest country in the world." (Another way he connected to the American people.) and said that he wanted to make the United States what it used to be, respected.

Cons:

Nuclear Scare
**Obama should have stayed away from speaking about the present threat of nuclear war in order to avoid more or less panic.**

Dinosaurs, Wolves and Bears. Oh My!

I'm the kind of person who believes dinosaurs used to roam the Earth. I have read up on the arguments between science and religion, despite the fact that I'm not a religious person. What I don't understand, however, is how Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin doesn't believe that dinosaurs existed. This woman needs to be escorted to a science museum or a archeological dig site so that she can see first hand. Palin believes in Creationism. If that's what she believes, fine. But she should keep that belief to herself and not campaign to have Creationism taught in schools. I don't want my future children to grow up not being exposed to Darwin's Theory of Evolution, or not knowing about dinosaurs. Governor Palin--have you ever watched Jurassic Park? Did you band your children from watching Barney or Land Before Time? Maybe you were all too busy killing wolves and bears.

To me, animal abuse is completely sickening. I think animal abusers should receive capital punishment. Animal Abuse IS a CRIME. So what gives Sarah Palin the right to allow and desire the killing of wolves and bears? Palin believes that wolves and bears are a threat to mankind. Should we drain all of the Earth's water bodies? Mankind could drown. Should we rid the world of things that could start a fire? Mankind could burn. How are you so pro guns when you're so "concerned" about mankind being threatened? YOU, Sarah Palin, are a threat to mankind. Does anyone else see the concern of having a self-proclaimed pitbull wearing lipstick having access to the United States' nuclear weapons or being Commander in Chief of the U.S. Military? To be honest, I am terrified of this woman. The thought of McCain getting elected is scary enough, but the thought of him dying in office and Palin becoming President is almost more than I can bear. I would love to know if McCain gave any actual thought to choosing Palin and if he's giving it any thought now.

Do your part this November. Save the wolves. Save the bears. Save our country. VOTE!

Ok, So Abstinence Didn't Work...

Barack Obama has made it clear that Sarah Palin's family life will not be brought into the election. I, however, find that I need to bring up a few issues.

In 2006 while running for Governor of Alaska, Palin stated on the Governor's Questionnaire that "The Sex-Ed programs will not find my support." Either she's been slapped with karma or the God she's always preaching about is trying to teach her a lesson. Just two years after releasing that statement, Governor Palin had to release another, that her seventeen year old daughter, Bristol is pregnant. I find this ironic and honestly comical not just because of Palin's stance on sexual education and her abstinence only beliefs, but because just seven months after Sarah and Todd Palin were married, their eldest son Track was born...and not prematurely. Apparently shotgun weddings seem to run in the Palin family. Perhaps if Bristol had the opportunity to take a sexual education class, she and Jamie Lynn Spears wouldn't have to enroll at the same day care. Let it be known, Governor Palin, preaching about abstinence isn't going to stop kids from having sex.

What we may never know is whether or not Bristol Palin wanted to have an abortion. Her mother is completely Pro-Life. So much in fact, that she denies Alaskan rape victims the right to have an abortion. Honestly, I applaud Palin for choosing not to abort her son, Trig who was born with Down Syndrome. She had the choice. So should Bristol. So should rape victims. So should all women.

Let your voice be heard this November. VOTE!

Obama and Biden Vs. Clinton

When I was a Junior in high school, I doubled up on history classes so I wouldn't need to take one senior year. In one of those classes, we began talking about the 2008 Presidential Election and one name kept coming up. That name being Hillary Clinton. From the very beginning, I have been a Hillary supporter. Not because she's a woman, even though I think one should be in the White House. (Any woman but Sarah Palin, that is.) I've always thought Hillary Clinton would make a remarkable President because she's been there before. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton had our country in one of its greatest financial statuses in years...only to have it destroyed two times over by the moron who is currently in office. Hillary knows how the White House runs and operates and her views are almost 100% on par with my own. I was a strong Hillary supporter up until the very end. A Hillary for President poster still hangs on my bedroom door, as I am hanging onto the hope that someday it will come true.

I am not just voting for Barack Obama because he is the next best thing or because Clinton told me to. When I was a Senior in high school, another name for President came up. That name being Barack Obama. I looked up information on this man, the Illinois Senator they called the next John F. Kennedy and thought to myself, this man could very well end up being our next President. Then I thought how absolutely amazing it would be if they ran together. In my mind at the time, it was for Clinton as President and Obama as V.P. As the Primarys came to a close, Obama was ahead, Hillary bowed out of the race and I had faith that he would choose her as his running mate and I believe a lot of people thought he would.

Do I think Obama should have chosen Clinton as his V.P.? Yes, I do. An African-American and a woman in the White House would show how far our country has come in just the past century. It would sway some swing voters and gain votes from the female population. (Who need to stop thinking with their vaginas and not vote for Sarah Palin just because she has one...because that's debatable.) I also think by not picking Clinton, Obama could possibly lose more votes because her faithful supporters may still write-in her name on the election ballet. Write-In's could also cause some problems for John McCain, as many Republicans are writing in Ron Paul. Do I think Obama may have made a mistake choosing Joe Biden? Yes, I do. I don't think Biden has gained Obama any votes. The addition of Palin is the reason McCain is currently ahead in the polls.

Having said that, Biden, at the same time is a smart choice because of his years of experience. McCain has slammed Obama time and time again for his lack of experience. It just goes to show you how much of a hypocrit John McCain is. Sarah Palin has only had three years of government experience, two of which were spend as Mayor of the crystal meth capitol of Alaska. Biden is also a very likeable person, so although not my pick, definitely a worthy candidate.

The Republican Party Needs A Sense Of Humor...and a Slap in the Face

In an earlier entry, I posted a link to the Saturday Night Live skit featuring an INCREDIBLE Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton. (This is probably the only positive thing I will ever say about Sarah Palin) She thought it was funny, laughed and even thought it was hysterical at how much the two resemble each other. This week, John and Cindy McCain are speaking out on the skit calling it sexist and a terrible portrayal of Palin while making Clinton look like a saint...Did the McCain's even watch? Seriously, it's a comedy show. It's supposed to be funny. Grow up, John McCain, you're 72 years old for God's sake.

As much as I hate Sarah Palin, I am ecstatic that John McCain did not pick Mitt Romney as his running mate. Out of all the initial candidates for the Presidency, Mitt Romney was the only candidate against every single gay topic they were discussing. How the man who was formally governor of Massachusetts, one of the most gay friendly states in the country was even elected in the first place. However, saying that, I think McCain's intentions in choosing Palin were completely unjustified, seeing as the two even disagree on some topics and I don't think he actually knew what he was getting into not only with her personal life, but also with some of her views that are suddenly being made public knowledge. Prior to Palin, did McCain ever bring up Creationism, War With Russia or the "Conversion" of Gays? No.

I could have lived with McCain as President had he picked someone like former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is basically a Democrat. But McCain/Palin, I cannot deal with. When McCain announced Palin as his running mate, it was a choice completely out of left field, no one expected him to choose her, no one even knew who she was. The more I find out about this woman, the more I am determined to keep them out of the White House. Do your part, VOTE in November!!

The U.S. Gay Population vs. Sarah Palin

As a gay American, one of many things I look for in a candidate is their views of subjects such as gay marriage, gay adoption, etc. Not only is Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain against most gay topics, his running mate Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is on a mission to "save" and "convert" our country's homosexual population. The last person who attempted to do such a thing was named Adolf Hitler and we all know how that worked out. Palin claims to have several gay friends. I'm unaware of the gay population in Alaska but I know this: I could not and would not be friends with someone who thinks gays need to be saved, converted and sent to camps and I don't know of any other gay person who would. I know people who are against gay marriage for whatever reason, ok I can live with that, it's not something I'm 100% with, but I can deal with it if they are for civil unions. I most likely wouldn't be friends with someone who is against gay adoption or against anything to do with gays having children. However, this saving, converting, sending to camp nonsense is exactly that. If anyone out there has ever seen the film "But I'm A Cheerleader", it is a comedy spoof on this sort of thing, but still shows just how awful something like this could be.

Lipstick On A Pig

Like most, I had never heard of Sarah Palin prior to Senator John McCain choosing her as his running mate making her the Vice Presidential nominee of the Republican Party. When Senator McCain announced his choice, I did some research on Governor Palin and found myself disagreeing with just about every single one of her views. There has been a media frenzy surrounding her, with bad story after bad story emerging about a woman who could very possibly run our country.

First of all, if Senator McCain gets elected...which could very well happen, so I encourage ALL of you to vote...if Senator McCain gets elected, there is a good chance that something could happen to him during those four years, he is 72 years old and has survived two heart attacks. If he does die, the next in power becomes president. The next in power being Sarah Palin. I don't want a woman who has referred to herself as a pitbull wearing lipstick to have access to nuclear weapons. The thought of that absolutely terrifies me.

Introduction

I've always been interested in politics. But with the upcoming crucial presidential election, my interest in politics has gone to more of an obsession leading me to decide, yes, a serious decision, that I plan to run for Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts within the next twenty or thirty years. I have no issues whatsoever with our current Governor, Deval Patrick. In fact, I fully support every decision he has made thus far and would have voted for him had I been eligible at the time.

That's basically all I have for now.

My next post will take a look into my personal political views and a look at the current U.S. Presidential/Vice-Presidential candidates.
